Riff Raff is an original composition by Wendell Hobbs, scored for big band plus string section, in the style of Count Basie.
NEW!!! From the library of The Masters Of Jazz Orchestra….An original composition by Wendell Hobbs in the style of Count Basie! The entire composition is built upon a simple “riff”. A riff is a short melodic statement, usually based on the blues, that is repeated and developed. The early Count Basie band was known for their riff-type tunes. Actually in the beginning there was no written music. The entire band would make up their parts based upon the “riff”. The soloists featured are the piano, who states the “riff”, followed by trumpet and alto sax. There is a dramatic change of key followed by a “Shout” chorus and the arrangement returns back to the riff. I have scored this for 4 trumpets, 4 trombones, 5 saxophones and 4 rhythm. I have also included the string parts that were played by The Masters Of Jazz Orchestra. Check it out……
