Composed in 1892, The Nutcracker is one of Tchaikovsky’s most favourite works. Although on it’s first performance it was not well received, the Suite (as arranged here) has proven to be a popular piece and since it’s popularity in the 1960’s has been used in countless films, adverts and music associated with the festive period.
The movements in the Suite are as follows:
1. Miniature Overture
2. March
3. Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy
4. Russian Dance – Trepak
5. Arab Dance – Coffee
6. Chinese Dance – Tea
7. Dance of the Reed Flutes
8. Waltz of the Flowers
