Description

This is a very flexible arrangement of the tune “La Folia” (which means “The Madness” in Spanish. With the exception of F parts there are enough combinations here to suit any ensemble. I already have a horn quintet version of La Folia, which I have also released. As well as parts for all four lines in Bb, Eb and C in Treble, alto and bass clefs, scores in each of these three keys are also provided making leading the ensemble easier.

This piece was an ‘earworm’ of its day. I was copied and arranged
for almost every conceivable type of ensemble by every major composer.
The most famous settings are probably those by Purcell, Corelli and Handel, but
this is a relatively unknown setting, originally for brass instruments,
but it transfers very well onto other instruments..

After
the full statement of the theme with simple harmony, there come three
variations, each becoming a little more complex using the usual
Renaissance/Baroque technique of divisions, whereby each variation uses
ever smaller note values.

This set is relatively simple and should not be beyond most ensembles.
