Description

Living in Northeast Ohio for my entire life, disappointment in my local sports teams has been an unfortunate reality. I began this piece in 2012, with the intention of musically connecting to that disappointment in a humorous way, while showing the ever-present faith in our sports teams. The opening motive of G-A-F-E is based on the word GAME, F substituting for the M. There are essentially four sections to the piece: a general
sports introduction, a baseball section featuring “Take Me Out to the Ballgame,” a football section featuring a “Fight Song” inspired by my Alma Mater’s, and a basketball section featuring “Sweet Georgia Brown.” These represent each of the major sports teams in Northeast Ohio. When I
started the piece, I couldn’t come up with an ending with which I was happy. After the Cleveland Cavaliers won the 2016 NBA Championship and the 52-year drought of major sports championships in Cleveland was ended, along with some success by the Browns and Indians in the following
several seasons, I decided to go back and finish this piece, with a much happier ending!
