This arrangement of “It Is Well with My Soul” begins in the first verse with peace and calm contentment. The second verse is in a minor key, expressing sadness and loss. The piece goes on to end with a confident and uplifting reprise of the chorus.
The arrangement conveys the text written by Horatio Spafford in 1873. His life had seen much trouble including business losses and losing his 4 year old son to scarlet fever. At the time this hymn was written, he had just lost his four daughters in a tragic accident at sea. In the midst of his pain, he was able to find comfort in his faith in God’s love.
