Description
The Huron Carol (‘Twas in the Moon of Wintertime) – Orchestra
The “Huron Carol” (or “Twas in the Moon of Wintertime”) is a Canadian Christmas hymn (Canada’s oldest Christmas song), written probably in 1642 by Jean de Brébeuf, a Jesuit missionary at Sainte-Marie among the Hurons in Canada. Brébeuf wrote the lyrics in the native language of the Huron/Wendat people; the song’s original Huron title is “Jesous Ahatonhia” (“Jesus, He is born”). The song’s melody is based on a traditional French folk song, “Une Jeune Pucelle” (“A Young Maid”).
This is an arrangement for a full Orchestra with an optional piano part included. A descant part can be played on Flute/Piccolo, Violin and Clarinet in the 2nd Verse and on the Trumpet, Flute/Piccolo, Violin and Clarinet in the 4th Verse. There is also an optional 4th Clarinet part – Mostly covered on the Viola 2 (optional Part)…
There is also the same arrangement for Concert Band available
