Description
Adventure into the Deep Woods for String Quartet was inspired by a hiking trip in the Black Hills National Forest in South Dakota. The music begins and ends in the key of D Major at a moderate pace, which indicates that our hikers enjoy the easy parts of the trail. The weather is pleasant and sunny. But the situation changes in the middle of the hike, when the key changes to D Minor. The pace is noticeably slower, and our hikers find that it’s a little spooky in the deep woods. Towering trees block the sunlight, and unseen animals rustle in an underbrush of leaves, ferns, and branches. Because it’s a hard to see the trail markings, our hikers begin to think they might be lost. Eventually the trail leads to a clearing where they recognize the way to their starting point. The pace picks up, D Minor becomes D Major, and all are happy in the end.
