Description

This Galop by German composer, Behr, features a series of fun brass fanfares to start the work, and the brass are featured throughout. The Royal Fanfare Galop is based on the lively and playful social dance, possibly of Hungarian origin, that was popular as a ballroom dance in 19th-century England and France. The most famous Galop is arguably the Infernal Galop from the comic opera; Orpheus of the Underworld by Offenbach, which is often used for the French dance, the Can-Can.

The score includes parts for the Eb Clarinet, English Horn (Cor Anglais) and Contrabassoon, as they add new orchestral colours. However, the score is definitely playable without these instruments, as the parts are doubled in tutti sections and cross-cued for solos with more common instrument parts. Due to the key, alternate parts for Clarinets in A and Trumpet in A, are also provided.

  • Optional parts for Eb Alto Saxophone, Bb Tenor Saxophone and Piano part are also supplied. These can be used to add colour or can assist if you are missing instruments, particularly Bassoons or Horns 1 & 3, or the ensemble has an insufficient number of lower strings.
