Description
Springtime Garden for String Quartet was inspired by lovely flower gardens nurtured by the composer. This composition begins with drones representing the cold soil at the end of winter when snowdrops are just starting to bloom.  Pizzicato notes, representing rain, reflect the anticipation of spring. Melodies in each of the strings suggest plants beginning to emerge, and robins searching for earthworms in the new green grass. A meter shift from duple to triple in the final section of music signifies the arrival of spring. The garden is full of activity, including honey bees gathering nectar from the camellias.
