Helen-Jean Talbott is a composer and arranger of music, primarily for solo instruments (recorders, flutes, piano, guitar, and hurdy-gurdy) and ensembles (recorder orchestra and string quartets).  Her goal for composition is to create music that is enjoyable for the audience as well as for the performers.  Her musical style is lyrical, and is grounded in classical music, as well as early music (historical performance).  Her compositions exhibit beautiful melodic lines, rich harmonies, interesting rhythms, and dialog among all of the parts.  Helen-Jean’s diverse education and work experience and include B.S. and M.S. degrees in Agronomy (University of Maryland) and being a scientist for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, as well as earning a Master’s degree in Recorder Performance (JHU Peabody Institute) and performing at the Maryland Renaissance Festival and other venues.  Please see HJTalbott.com for more information and samples of work.
