Additional information:

Claude Balbastre was a French composer, harpsichordist, fortepianist and organist. He was a pupil of Claude Rameau, the younger brother of Jean-Phillipe Rameau, and became one of the most prominent composers and performers of his day.

Church services were always crowded when Balbastre played.

He taught Queen Marie Antoinette the harpsichord, and became the organist for the Count of Provence, the future King Louis XVIII.

During the French Revolution, Balbastre was able to avoid being connected with the nobility by playing Revolutionary hymns and songs on the organ he owned.
